FreeSurfer on the Open Science Grid?

FreeSurfer (http://surfer.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/) is "an open source software suite for processing and analyzing (human) brain MRI images".

Can the OSG provide backend processing capabilities for FreeSurfer, and make it very easy for end users to access?

Any update as to whether/when OSG will be providing this?

Freesurfer 5.3.0 is available in the modules system as freesurfer/5.3.0 .  In order to load it in your environment, you can run module load freesurfer/5.3.0  after which the freesurfer application will be available for use.

FreeSurfer is a great addition. To use TRACULA efficiently it will be necessary to modify their fsl_sub_mgh script to start sub jobs though. FreeSurfer and FSL interact for TRACULA (and perhaps some other operations). If available, a GPU would make the bedpost stage of potentially 12 hours shrink to minutes.
